Depression
Depression is a treatable mood disorder that provokes feelings of sadness, worthlessness, and hopelessness. Just like other medical conditions, such as diabetes or high-blood pressure, you can’t just “snap out of it” and make yourself “happy.” Depression is often triggered by stressful events such as a divorce or the death of a loved one and can last for long periods of time. Symptoms of depression can include prolonged sadness, anger/irritability, pessimism or indifference, loss of energy, and feelings of worthlessness.
Depression can also provoke recurring thoughts of death or suicide. If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts, please call 988 - the Suicide Prevention and Crisis or go to your nearest emergency room.
